James Bright
OWNER & HEAD COACH
Hi, I’m James. I started Roo Running to help primary school kids improve their fitness, grow their confidence, and enjoy being active. My goal is to support kids in reaching their running goals while making sport fun and something they look forward to.
My background
I’m a 22-year-old UQ graduate with a passion for health, fitness, and helping primary school children achieve their sporting goals.
I found my love for running back in my early days at Wilston State School. It gave me the fitness and confidence to try other sports and make new friendships. Through Roo Running, I want to give every child the same chance – to feel good about themselves, stay active, and build the self-belief that carries into all areas of life.
Why James? I’m not just a coach, I’m also an experienced athlete. As the former Cross-Country Captain at Churchie and a state-level competitor in running, triathlon, and swimming, I understand what it takes to train, improve, and perform. I bring that first hand experience into every session to help kids build strong foundations in fitness, technique, and confidence.

Coaching experience
With over three years of coaching experience at Wilston State School, I’ve worked closely with primary school children in Cross-Country and Athletics focusing on technique, endurance and speed. My coaching style is hands-on, encouraging, and tailored to each child’s ability and goals. In 2024, I expanded Roo Running to St Columba’s Primary School and Windsor State School, where I launched new group programs that quickly gained momentum. The response from students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the supportive, engaging environment I strive to create in every session.
A Coach’s Testimonial
I have worked with James for many years and watched him develop into a seasoned professional as a running coach and mentor to young children. I’ve had the privilege of coaching James as a young child to bringing him into my own running coaching business as an adult, to now watching him flourish with his own coaching business. James is the perfect combination of fun, passionate athlete and skills.
