1. “What exactly do the kids do in the running sessions?”
Each session includes a warm-up, technique drills, short sprints, fun games, and a main running activity designed to build endurance, speed, and coordination. The program is structured but enjoyable, and all activities are age-appropriate.
2. “Is this suitable for kids who aren’t strong runners or are just beginners?”
Absolutely. Roo Running is designed for all ability levels, from beginners to competitive runners. Kids are encouraged to participate at their own pace, and activities are tailored so everyone feels included and supported.
3. “Is the program suitable for prep students?”
Yes. All activities are age-appropriate, and safety is our top priority. We focus on proper technique, gradual progression, and close supervision at all times. Your child will never be pushed beyond what is safe for their age.
4. “What if my child doesn’t enjoy it or wants to stop?”
We want every child to love being active. If your child is unsure, we encourage you to contact James and request a trial session first. If your child would like to stop training, we offer a flexible cancellation approach.
5. “What happens if my child can’t attend every session?”
We understand that families have busy schedules, other sports commitments, and occasional absences. Although we’re unable to offer refunds for single missed sessions, if your child is unwell for multiple sessions or experiences an injury, please contact James to discuss suitable options.
6. “Can my child join the program mid-term?”
Yes, children are always welcome to join mid-term. We understand that families get busy, so you don’t need to wait until the next term to start. If you’re joining after the program has already begun, please contact James directly by email or phone to arrange a pro-rated fee based on the remaining sessions.
7. “What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?”
If weather conditions are unsafe, parents will receive an SMS and/or email message by 7:00am. Light rain sessions can still go ahead, but thunderstorms or heavy rain result in cancellation for safety.
8. “What should my child bring?”
Comfortable running shoes, a water bottle, a hat and their school uniform in their bag if they’re arriving in sports clothes. If the oval is wet due to rain, please have your child(ren) bring a spare pair of shoes and socks.
9. “Who is the coach?”
James, is the Head Coach and Owner of Roo Running. James is a qualified and experienced youth cross-country and athletics coach who has been coaching primary school children for over three years at several North Brisbane primary schools.
10. “Do I need to stay and supervise?”
No, parents do not need to stay. All sessions are fully supervised by qualified and insured youth coaches. However, you are always welcome to stay and watch if you’d like.
